An ecclectic modern folk album I made with just Angus and myself. We took what he already had, experimented with a few things and came up with this lovely album. I love the ambience coupled to the up-close recording style we used on Angus’ vocals.

It took around 4 years to make this album. We tried whatever we wanted to, Jackie being one of the most talented and natural singer songwriters I’ve ever met. Some of it was easy, some was a struggle. It began in Tamworth and culminated in Twickenham, UK. And it was worth it.

I’ve been in this band for 21 years as of 2023 and this album is a high water mark. It came off the back of a Canadian tour, several ructions and over a few sporadic sessions - but it just spilled out effortlessly. It actually started as a demo disc. I barely remember anything about making it as I was out of my mind, nearly, with anxiety at the time. It’s a mash of terrific songs, time on the road, then scraping it all together.

Mel played on Jackie’s Lilith Shrugs album and we made this record in the middle of all that. There’s a few different feels and approaches on this project and a lot of contributions were “flown in” too. I personally love the title track. It recalls the mood found on Rickie Lee Jones early stuff and that’s never a bad thing.

A very special project recorded at the corner of the ultra-remote WA, NT and SA borders in 2016, The Desert Stars second album is real desert rock performed by the most authentic people I’ve ever worked with. Everything about making this album was threaded with edgy experience and elements of risk. An unforgettable gig.

Neville is proper country singer/songwriter who I really admire. I think he was somewhat fascinated by the activities of other artists I was involved with and wanted to see what I could do. The result is distinctly left-field whilst maintaining traditional roots. Several others helped this album along. It’s a fave of mine.

I’ve had much to do with Ms JM, this EP being our first proper go at making some product. Enlisting the then mighty Fat Lambs and taking a wherever the wind blows sentiment to the work, we came up with this spirited 6 tracker - 4 original songs from Jackie and two somewhat divergent covers.

Absolutely one of my greatest projects with one of my most treasured people. We made this album with a steady deliberation that was inspiring and tremendous fun. Every song is heartfelt and brave. We placed no stylistic limitations and went about it with a clarity one wishes for more often in this game. I love what I played on this album and the brilliant contributions of everybody present on this outing.

I produced this song totally “in the box” as we call it - using just the computer-based mixing tools - something I wasn’t used to at the time. It took me a lot longer than usual; there were many tracks to sift through as well. A steep learning curve I guess. But what amazing sentiment this song conveys. The musicianship is second to none.

Inga and I made this album completely via email and dropbox. We didn’t speak to each other once during its production. We just bounced ideas back and forth between Australia and the UK until we arrived at something I’m very proud of - something that went much further than I expected. There’s a lot of experimental steel guitar on these cuts and plenty of other things that simply appeared as we went along including the tools of Inga’s sound therapy practise. Her songcraft on tricky material such as we devised in this process is brilliant. Nature and the elemental forces shaped everything we did.

It’s exactly what the title says and it captures very much what this little band was all about. It’s a live to 8 track album with very few overdubs or fixing. It was made in two sessions, one in a Surry Hills terrace and the other in suburban Croydon in Sydney’s inner west. Poor neighbours. It was such a fun band.
